Ross is the founder of Copylab. He has been a financial copywriter since 1995, learning his trade at Scottish Amicable, Prudential, Baillie Gifford and Standard Life Investments. After 10 years of writing for other companies, Ross set up Copylab in 2005 to provide clients with an expert copywriting and investment-writing service. He now manages Copylab’s client relationships in Scotland, as well as looking after the growing team. At heart, though, Ross is still a writer and tries to find the time to wield a pen.
Marisa began her career in investment writing and editing in 2007 as an assistant news editor at Forbes.com. From there she went on to fill editorial roles at Condé Nast and at Business Wire’s 24-hour New York headquarters. Marisa relocated to the UK from her native US in 2013 and joined Copylab the following autumn. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in writing from Boston’s Emerson College.
Katy has five years’ experience in the asset management industry. After graduating from the University of Glasgow, Katy began her career at Ignis Asset Management before joining Baillie Gifford’s marketing team in 2009. Katy spent three years at Baillie Gifford, developing her skills as a writer and editor. After moving to London, Katy spent a year at Polar Capital in a broader sales-support role before realising that her true passion lay in writing. She joined the Copylab team as an investment writer in July 2013 and relishes the opportunity to work for a range of different clients.
Justin has more than 15 years’ experience as a writer and editor. After reading history at Oxford University, he spent a year in Japan and four years in China before returning to the UK, where he worked as an editor and lexicographer for HarperCollins. He joined Martin Currie as an investment writer in 2006 and became head of the company’s writing team in 2010. In 2012 he moved to Shanghai as head of communications for Open Door Capital Group. Justin joined Copylab in the summer of 2013.
Paul has 20 years’ experience in the asset-management industry. He spent the bulk of his career at Ignis Asset Management, where he held roles in marketing and business development before moving into investment writing. Paul left Ignis in 2008 and spent three years as a freelance investment writer, working for a range of clients and developing his skills. He joined Copylab in 2012 as one of its first permanent employees. Paul is also a keen photographer whose images have been used in Copylab’s own website.
Duncan is an experienced editor and copywriter, having worked in print and electronic publishing for over 10 years. He has held specialist editorial roles working on legal, technical and education books and websites, gaining his main body of experience working as a dictionaries editor at HarperCollins. Duncan moved into financial writing when he took a role as an investment writer at Martin Currie. He graduated in law from Aberdeen University.
Lisa has worked in asset management for 18 years. During this time she has held roles in report writing, business development and client-relationship management. In 2005, Lisa moved into financial journalism, combining her investment experience with her passion for writing. Since then Lisa has worked for various employers including Allianz RCM in Hong Kong, where she worked on the marketing communications team, Morgan Stanley and Global Asset Management. Lisa has also written several business intelligence reports for companies wishing to invest in third-world economies. Her work has covered a wide range of areas from banking and insurance to food & beverages and telecommunications. Lisa started working for Copylab in 2012.
